In 1948 a group of citizens concerned with keeping the history of the Applegate Trail and the Rogue Valley alive founded the Josephine County Historical Society.

It is the heart felt desire of the Josephine County Historical Society to continue the preservation of the history of Josephine County and Southern Oregon. The Society has received many donations, the most famous of which is a collection of oriental art and a sum of money by Col. LeRoy Heston in his will in 1982. The Schmidt House was donated by the Schmidt sisters.

Many others have donated much time, energy and money to this huge undertaking and as we post our Hall of Fame we hope to remember them for all the world to see.

It is thru the help of volunteers and our members that the Historical Society is able to continue to keep our History alive. Please call our offices for more information.
